A coffee shop boss in Morecambe has thanked the local community for rallying round to help after a burglary.

Becky West from The Salty Bean Coffee House said the break-in, which forced the cafe to close on Wednesday, had cost her a day's trading and affected her "emotionally and mentally".

CCTV shows a young man in a hooded jacket smashing a front window at the coffee shop on Marine Road West to get in, at 3.09am on Wednesday.

Becky said he stole the till and is believed to have taken between £85 and £100.

The Salty Bean reopened on Thursday and was packed as customers turned out to show their support.

"It was the disruption that it caused to the business that has cost me the most amount of money," she said, speaking to Beyond Radio on Thursday.

"And what it's done to me emotionally and mentally is the hardest part. It's made me question everything that I've been doing for my business.

"The amount of support that I've had...thank you very very much to everybody who's come into the coffee shop today.

"One of our customers, who's lovely, and I didn't ask for this, she has done a Gofundme page to help support me because of the losses.

"We do have insurance but business insurance is just that little bit more difficult than home insurance and car insurance. It doesn't cover your losses and what I lost as a trading business for a day, could send me under.

"But I called out on the community and that community has come out tenfold today, and hopefully they will do the same for the next few days so I can pick up where I left off and basically keeping this business going.

"So thank you to all the public support."

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "The burglary at the Salty Bean Coffee House has been reported to police and enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone with information, please contact 101 – quoting log 0219 of 9th September."

*Police were also called at 8.54am on September 5 to a report of a burglary at Edmondsons fishmonger's on Yorkshire Street in the West End.

A police spokesperson said: "It was found that a till had been stolen. Anyone with information, please contact 101 – quoting log 0324 of 5th September."
