A centre described as a youth club for the over 50s is opening its doors for people to come along and see what it has to offer.

The Rainbow Centre in Morecambe will hold an Open Day on Saturday April 18.

Anyone over 50 is welcome to come along, try a new activity, and meet new people on the day from 10am to 2pm.

The Rainbow Centre, which celebrates its 60th birthday in 2027, provides a range of weekly activities run by both volunteer leaders and professional instructors. They do dancing, yoga, Zumba, bowling, card games, photography, glass engraving, art and much more.

The centre is a vibrant and welcoming place and new members are warmly welcomed.

"It's a wonderful place," said Dawn.

"People come here who are on their own, for the social side, to meet other people, and there is always laughter.

"Isolation is a really tough thing and we hope that we will help people, and we do that."

Allan Holloway, who said he particularly loves the glass engraving sessions, said: "I love the Rainbow Centre.

"They've got cracking staff, there's loads and loads of activities to do here, and I think it's so cheap as well.

"Everybody's friendly and anybody's welcome."

The original organisation was started in 1959 under the chairmanship of the late Alderman Raymond Penhale OBE.

In 1965 the Clarence Street Methodist Church was purchased and the Rainbow Centre was officially opened on November 16 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

There is an annual membership fee plus a small charge for each activity.

The Rainbow Centre is closed for Easter but repens from April 13, Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
