A bookshop in Morecambe has launched a story and poetry writing competition hoping to champion local literary talent.
Lost at Sea Books, which opened in August on Victoria Street in the town centre, has invited residents of all ages across Morecambe, Heysham, and the wider Lancaster district to submit an original short story or poem of 500 words or less.
Embracing a nautical theme tied to the shop’s identity, so every submission must be titled ‘Lost at Sea’.
The competition has been split into two age brackets - under 16s and adults - with book vouchers of £15 and £25 respectively, awarded to the winners.
The closing date for entries is Friday November 6.
"We are incredibly proud to serve as a cultural and creative hub for Morecambe’s book lovers," said Christopher Wood, owner of Lost at Sea Books.
"This competition is about celebrating our local community, giving young minds a fantastic project over their school holidays, and highlighting the vibrant imagination that thrives right here by the bay."
Entrants can pick up official entry slips directly from the counter at Lost at Sea Books.
Completed stories and poems can be hand-delivered back to the shop or submitted via email to competitions@lostatseabooks-morecambe.co.uk.
All entries must include the author's name, age category, and a contact phone number.
The winners will be selected by the bookshop team and announced in mid-November.
