Lancaster-based country artist Susannah Clegg will the first single from her upcoming debut album next month.
Backed by the country-jazz double bass of Charlie Wells, the western swing fiddle of Damon Kilcawley and featuring Laurence Kingston on electric guitar, ‘Prospect Street’ is a tale of love and luck gone bad.
Recorded by Josh Clark at his studio, Get Real Audio, ‘Prospect Street’ is Susannah’s first full band release and marks an exciting new chapter in her career. Inspired by the fierce heartbreak songs of Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, as well as the music of contemporary artists such as Sierra Ferrell, Luke Bell, and Brennen Leigh, ‘Prospect Street’ is a clear love letter to traditional country songwriting.
Susannah said: “I’m a big fan of mining songs and metaphors, so coming across a road called Prospect Street in Lancaster, where I live, really sparked my imagination.
“If ‘Prospect Street’ was a metaphor for hope, then I wanted to explore the idea of what it would be like to no longer be there.
‘’The song itself is about a ‘claim’ to a relationship falling through and, via the lens of lost love, Prospect Street seemed to be the perfect backdrop for a traditional country heartbreak song.”
Bursting onto the UK country and Americana scene Susannah has been thrilling audiences up and down the country since the release of her debut EP in February 2025.
Earlier this year she supported US artist John R. Miller on two of his UK tour dates, and she is scheduled to perform at a number of UK country and Americana festivals over the summer.
Prospect Street is available from July 17 on all major streaming platforms.
