Crews tackle fire in flat at Lancaster University

The fire was at Alexandra Park on the university campus

Firefighters were called to a fire at a flat on the Lancaster University campus.

Four fire engines from Lancaster, Garstang and Morecambe were called to Alexandra Park at the university at 3.48am this morning (Tuesday May 26).

The fire involved a carpet in a flat.

The aerial ladder platform and support fire engine from Preston also attended.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and one positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the fire," said a Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.

"Crews were in attendance for one hour and thirty minutes."

A Lancaster University spokesperson said: "We can confirm - as reported by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service- their attendance to campus today, 26 May, shortly before 4am to deal with a small, contained fire which was extinguished very quickly along with the resulting smoke.  

"Our fire evacuation procedures were followed, and no one was injured as a result of the incident."
