A consultation has been launched on the future of a primary school near Lancaster due to falling pupil numbers.
Lancashire County Council's Cabinet voted to begin a consultation over the future of Thurnham Glasson Church of England Primary School at its meeting on Thursday.
The voluntary aided school currently has seven pupils on roll and council data shows there are significantly more school places available in the area than are needed.
Population levels, GP registrations for children under five and projected housing growth in the area also indicate that pupil numbers are likely to continue declining.
Solutions on the table included allowing the school to continue running as is, despite low pupil numbers and financial pressures, academisation, or launching a formal consultation on closure.
This step was given the green light by Lancashire County Council this week.
People's views will be considered as part of the six week consultation, including from parents, stakeholders, governors, the Diocese, staff and the council.
County Councillor Matthew Salter, cabinet member for Education and Skills, said: "We understand any proposal affecting a local school will be of great interest to pupils, parents, staff and the wider community.
‘’No decision has been made, and we want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to share their views. Whatever happens we are keen to work with the diocese and the local community.
"We would encourage everyone with an interest in the school to take part in the consultation and make their views known."
