A tree toppled onto a house in Lancaster during high winds as Storm Boelo batters the UK.

The large tree fell on West Road on Sunday morning and the road was cordoned off to vehicles.

Local photographer Josh Brandwood said he spoke to a householder on West Road who was in the kitchen making a brew at around 6.50am when he heard a loud bang.

He then discovered the tree had fallen on his house, damaging the corner of his property.

Police cordoned off the road, Lancaster City Council subsequently attended to clear debris from the carriageway, and contractors have been cutting up and removing the fallen tree.

Also on Sunday morning, a tree fell on the corner of Quarry Road and Dumbarton Road in Lancaster, next to the Premier shop.

Williamson Park in Lancaster also closed all facilities on Sunday due to a risk of falling trees and branches, after several trees fell in the park.

An Amber weather warning for strong winds remains in place until 9pm on Sunday.

Amber means increased potential of bad weather situations causing disruption to travel, risk to life and property.

The Met Office has issued the warning due to Storm Boelo bringing gusts of up to 80mph to the worst hit areas of the UK.
