LISTEN: Lancaster prisoners carve penguins for Christmas trail with a difference

Wooden penguins have been carved by prisoners at Lancaster Farms for a family trail around Lancaster

Prisoners have created penguins for a unique family Christmas trail around Lancaster city centre.

Inmates at HM Lancaster Farms at Halton carved wooden penguins which are being decorated by local schoolchildren for Lancaster BID's festive hunt.

This came after Lancaster BID (Business Improvement District) teamed up with the prison service on the project.

The 12 penguins will be placed in 12 locations in Lancaster city centre for people to find while doing their Christmas shopping.

The Penguin Trail is just one of a series of festive events being organised by Lancaster BID this year.

"We bought a lot of wood, we delivered it to the prison, and the inmates at the prison have carved out 12 penguins for us, which we have since dropped off at 12 local schools," said Tony.

"They are now busy decorating penguins and we will pick them up, and put then out in 12 locations across the city centre.

"The prison service have been fantastic, they have been keen on working with us, it's been a really nice project to work on, and now families will go on the hunt for 12 missing penguins."

The trail runs from November 21 to January 3.
