Morecambe Halloween fundraiser gets star backing with help from Lancaster Ghostbusters

The Lancaster Ghostbusters - Rowena and Simon Hogg

An annual fundraising Halloween display in Morecambe has received Hollywood and national TV support with a little help from the Lancaster Ghostbusters.

Each year Chris Dickson from Morecambe transforms his garden into a mini scare park for local families to enjoy, raising thousands for CancerCare.

This year the fame of 'The Haunting on South Road' has spread even further, thanks to couple Simon and Rowena Hogg who cosplay as the 'Lancaster Ghostbusters' at events around the area.

They secured a video message endorsing the event from Annie Potts, who played the iconic role of receptionist Janine Melnitz in the smash hit Ghostbusters films of the 1980s.

Although Annie had a bit of trouble pronouncing 'Morecambe', she gave the fundraiser a great plug from her home in the USA.

"There is a fantastic charity event that's going to happen," she said.

"There's going to be a Halloween display to help CancerCare, can there be a better cause than that?

"You guys should get down there to 80 South Road. It's going to be really fun and the cause is fantastic."

Then on Friday, Simon appeared as a caller on The Jeremy Vine Show on Channel 5 to spread the word about The Haunting on South Road.

During a phone-in chat on the subject of 'Are Halloween decorations tacky?', Simon told the famous TV presenter: "We've got a Ghostbusters car. We support local events and charity events.

"We have a whole pile of Ghostbusters equipment and replica props.

"This year we're helping a friend of ours, Chris in Morecambe, with a great big event and we're doing it for CancerCare."

Jeremy said: "What a positive item!"

It will have more animatronics and visual wow factors than ever before and will feature the Lancaster Ghostbusters, burger bar, slushies and more.
