Lancaster’s Williamson Park is giving everyone the chance to be part of the UK’s biggest celebration of action to tackle climate change with a day of activities for all the family.
This year’s Great Big Green Week runs from Friday, September 24 until Sunday, October 2.
The annual event gives organisations and community groups an opportunity to show support for action to protect the planet by organising events in their area.
On Sunday, October 2, Williamson Park will be hosting a number of activities that visitors to the park can enjoy.
From 10am until 4pm, there will be a Vegan Market in conjunction with Artisan Markets in the park’s Ashton Memorial.
Producers from across Lancashire will be coming together to bring a unique market to the park with stalls selling street food, sweet and savoury pastries and sweet treats, cook-in sauces, pickles and preserves, gins and beers, handmade goods and gifts, skincare and make-up products, clothes and accessories and much more. You'll also be able to choose from a selection of vegan food and treats for dogs.
The RSPB will also be at the park all day talking all things nature and about the impact of climate change on wildlife.
If you fancy a close encounter with Lancashire’s first ever electric bin wagon and a giant walking, talking battery, you’ll find the council’s waste and recycling team with its new mascot, Sparky in the park from 1.30pm. Staff will be on hand to offer top tips on how you can recycle more of your household waste and avoid sending it to landfill.
LG Fitness will be hosting two wellbeing running/walking events from 3pm. Registration for these events opens at 2pm.
Councillor Kevin Frea, Cabinet member with responsibility for climate action, said: “Everyone can do their bit to tackle climate change.
“By getting involved in the Great Big Green Week and taking part in local events such as this is a great opportunity to learn more about the simple actions we can all take to reduce the impact we have on the environment.”
