Goalkeeper Joe Young has signed for Morecambe on a one-year deal with an option of another year.
The 23-year-old arrives at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium following his departure from Buxton and brings experience from both the EFL and National League North.
Born in Telford, Young progressed through the academy system at Wolverhampton Wanderers, representing England at Under-17 level before gaining senior experience out on loan.
Standing at 6ft 1in, the shot-stopper has had spells with clubs includng Brackley Town and Telford, and at Buxton, where he established himself as first choice keeper and helped the club compete at the top end of the division.
Young joins Adam Lakeland’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Lakeland said: “I’m delighted that Joe has joined us at Morecambe. For me, he was one of the best goalkeepers in the National League North last season, helping Buxton reach the playoffs where they were ultimately defeated by South Shields.
“I believe Joe will only improve having had that experience, and at 23 years old, has his best years ahead of him. He may not be the biggest in stature, but he is sharp, agile, makes big saves and is excellent with his feet, all attributes we feel will complement us next season.”
“He adds to the already strong goalkeeping department heading into the season and I look forward to working with him.”
Young said: ”As soon as I heard Morecambe were interested in me, I met with the gaffer a few days later and he spoke to me about everything, and it was something that excited me.”
