Lancaster City battle for hard fought point at Warrington

Lancaster City earned a point on the road at Warrington in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Jimmy Marshall's men had to come from behind despite initially leading through Dylan Thompson, before Charlie Bailey's second half header.

Dylan Moonan started in what was his 100th appearance for the Dolly Blues.

Lancaster started well, as Steven Yawson's low effort was denied well by Warrington Town goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt after just five minutes.

The Dollies continued to slowly ramp up the pressure until they got their reward ten minutes before half time.

Sam Bailey's free kick caused havoc in the area, Thompson saw his first effort blocked on the line before reacting fastest to stab home at the second time of asking.

The home side had a chance to draw level just before the break, as a curling Callum Edwards effort dropped just wide of Brad Kelly's goal.

The Yellows began the second half how they left off, on the front foot, as they grabbed the equalising goal through substitute Ben Elliott whose glancing header found the far corner.

The hosts also came inches off to taking the lead not even two minutes later, as Edwards rolled just wide after racing into a one-on-one with Kelly.

A couple of wayward efforts were all that Lancaster could manage whilst searching for a second before the home side flipped the game on it's head.

Reece Daly brilliantly chipped the ball over the stranded Kelly and into the bottom corner to put his side ahead just after the hour mark.

However, the Dollies weren't about to throw the towel in. C.Bailey met an inch perfect cross from Jules Flanagan to glance a fantastic header past the goalkeeper to pull the Dollies back level with 20 minutes left to find a winner.

There was an almighty scare for the Dollies when Jack Goodwin connected with an Elliott cross at the back post in stoppage time, only to hammer it over the crossbar.

Both sides continued to huff puffed but couldn't find a third goal, meaning the points were shared.
