Lancaster City will travel to current Northern Premier League Premier Division leaders FC United of Manchester on Saturday.

They will head there looking for a first away league win since August 27, which would admittedly come against the odds.

The home team have had a very impressive campaign so far and look destined to build on their ninth-placed finish in the seventh tier last season.

However, their last result was a surprising 2-1 defeat at the hands of Guiseley. Before that though, they’d been enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run in what is shaping up to be a very open league this season.

The club strengthened in several areas, especially going forwards, over the summer and that is clearly paying dividends.

Lancaster City go into this game off the back of a 1-0 defeat to Warrington Town on Tuesday evening. They are currently 18th, just above the relegation places and manager Mark Fell told the club website after Tuesday’s loss that “we’ve got to go on a little run and pick up some points quickly”.

City had two players forced off through injury during that game – Sam Bailey and Brad Hubbold. It remains to be seen whether either will be fit for Saturday’s trip to Manchester.

Last season, Lancaster City won their home game against FC United of Manchester 1-0, while the Reds were victorious by the same score line in the reverse fixture.

FC United of Manchester v Lancaster City kicks off from Broadhurst Park at 3pm on Saturday (October 22).
