Late goals condemn Lancaster City to Curzon Ashton defeat

Two late second half goals condemned Lancaster City to their second home league defeat in a row in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

It was an encouraging start for Jimmy Marshall's side against Curzon Ashton, Charlie Bailey firing wide from the edge of the box on four minutes. Danny Whitehead would do the same at the other end on 10 minutes with similar results.

The Nash had the ball in the net on 14 minutes but blushes were spared as the offside flag was raised. Nic Evangelinos - making his first start since his return to injury looked lively, forcing former Dolly Aidan Dowling into a save on 16 minutes and went close with a free kick on the 27th minute.

The Nash had the ball in the net again, but Joel Amado is adjudged to have fouled Brad Kelly. A tense first half with no more chances played out.

Lancaster City were the more lively of the sides as the second half started. Charlie Bailey with two identical efforts in 2 minutes, both agonisingly wide of Dowling post.

Dylan Moonan let fly on the hour mark from range which was just off target and substitute Steven Yawson almost made an instant impact a minute later, his shot into the side netting.

The pressure from the Dollies intensified as James Nolan's shot was wide and a trio of corners, Brad Moonan's header the closest to the deadlock being broken.

Then, on 73 minutes Marcus Poscha played a long ball forward and a mix up at the back between Brad Moonan and Brad Kelly gave Brad Holmes the chance to ghost in and tap into an empty goal.

Holmes was after a second of the day and a loose pass almost gave him the chance, but Brad Kelly made an expert save. The biggest chance to equalise came on 87 minutes. It came from a corner which was only cleared to Nathan Caine who fired the ball back into the box, which James Bailey turned it to goal but could only find the woodwork.

As the push for the equaliser intensified, the gaps at the back grew larger and when George Wilson played in Alex Curran to make to 2-0.
