Midfielder Cain rejoins Morecambe on new one year deal

Midfielder Jake Cain has rejoined Morecambe FC, signing a one year deal with the Shrimps ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The 24-year-old returns to the Halo Aerospace Stadium following the expiration of his previous contract at the end of June and will link back up with the club ahead of tomorrow’s National League North season opener against Spennymoor Town.

Cain arrived at Morecambe in August 2025 following his departure from Swindon Town and went on to establish himself as an important member of the Shrimps midfield during his first season with the club.

The midfielder featured 27 times in the National League last season, scoring twice and providing six assists.

A product of Liverpool’s Academy, Cain spent more than a decade with the Reds and progressed through their youth system before making his senior debut in an FA Cup victory over Shrewsbury Town in February 2020.

He later gained senior experience during a season-long loan with Newport County before joining Swindon Town permanently in January 2023, where he made 59 league appearances prior to his move to the Shrimps.

Cain said: “I’m really pleased to get it sorted and to be staying here."

“I enjoyed my football here last season and, after speaking with the gaffer about what he wants to build, it was something I wanted to be part of."
