Morecambe boxing brothers stay undefeated after impressing on Dubois-Wardley show

Nelson Birchall celebrates victory at the O2 in London on Saturday.

Boxing brothers Nelson and Leighton Birchall both remain undefeated after winning on the Dubois-Wardley 2 undercard in London.

Nelson, known as 'The Sexy One', became the first man to stop Levi Charles, defeating the Grimsby man in the seventh round after flooring him three times at the O2 in London.

Birchall, one of three professional boxing brothers from Morecambe, moved to 13 wins undefeated in his pro career and looked tremendous on Saturday night in his second victory in a matter of weeks.

The fight was shown as part of the live coverage of the Daniel Dubois-Fabio Wardley rematch for the WBO Heavyweight Title, worldwide on streaming service DAZN, and the viewing audience had to be impressed by the 22-year-old.

After targeting the tough Giles' body early on, the southpaw Birchall scored a first knockdown with a devastating body shot in the fifth round, sending his adversary down in a delayed reaction.

While Giles made the count and survived the round, he was floored again in the sixth after Nelson unleashed a solid left followed by a rapid series of uppercuts to the head.

The referee waved the fight off in Round 7 after Giles went down again after another crisp right to the body and a barrage from the relentless Birchall.

Top boxing commentator Adam Smith described the win as a "super performance".

And his fellow boxing pundit Dev Sahni said Birchall's win was "absolutely sensational" and "that sort of thing doesn’t happen to Levi Giles. Bit of a statement sent out to the lightweight division domestically."

Nelson won the Commonwealth Silver Super Featherweight title after a third round stoppage over Lewis Morris just a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Leighton Birchall moved to six wins out of six, winning every round en route to a points win over Alejandro Chazaro on Saturday.

Leighton, 20, is nicknamed 'The Future'.

William Birchall, 25, is also undefeated with five wins out of five in his pro career.

All three brothers were successful amateur boxers, winning medals at international level, and in 2019 they held national titles at the same time.
