Morecambe defender Luke Hendrie named Shrimps Live Player of the Season

Defender Luke Hendrie is the Beyond Radio Shrimps Live Player of the Season 2024/25

Morecambe defender, Luke Hendrie, is the Beyond Radio Shrimps Live Player of the Season 2024/25.

The right back becomes the fourth recipient of The Adam Stutchbury Memorial Trophy, after previous winners Cole Stockton, Connor Ripley and Joel Senior.

Luke, who joined the club last summer from Bradford City, quickly established himself as a key part in the back line for the Shrimps, making the right back berth his own with a series of solid displays.

The 30-year-old has made 40 appearances for the Shrimps this season in all competitions, before injury put a premature end to his campaign last month.

Click here to listen to our full interview with Luke, in conversation with Beyond Radio’s Dave Salmon:

Luke said: ‘’It’s bittersweet (following Morecambe’s relegation from League Two).

‘’I’m really grateful and it’s a great honour. Obviously for the club it’s been a disappointing season, and particularly the last couple of months when I’ve been injured and not able to contribute, it’s been frustrating.

‘’The rehab’s going well, and I’m just trying to get back fit and get my teeth into pre-season.

‘’I was proud of the manager showing faith in me in terms of starting every game I was available for. Individually, as the season went on I thought my performances were strong and I was disappointed about the timing of my injury with the run in, that was tough to watch.

‘’Derek Adams (manager) has been great for me. This is the second time I’ve worked with him, it’s been brilliant and I’ve really enjoyed working with him and playing for Morecambe.

‘’As a player you just want to have that trust between yourself and your manager. It’s been good this season and I’ve had lots of gametime.

‘’We knew it would be a difficult season, but the lads have kept going. The lads are disappointed it ended in relegation, but we’ve given it our lot and if you do that, you can’t really do much more.

‘’Now, it’s about accepting what’s happened, learning from it, and really being positive and making sure the whole club is aligned with how we’re going to attack next season.’’
