Morecambe’s Adam Mayor has been named The Athletic's ‘Rising Star’ at the Armstrong Projects Northwest Football Awards.
The 19-year-old was recognised after breaking into the Derek Adams’ first team squad last season, and quickly becoming an integral part of the squad.
Since making his senior debut in November 2022, Mayor has played 53 times for the Shrimps in all competitions, scoring six goals, including 12 appearances in League Two this season.
His displays have also twice earned him a call up to the stand by list for the England U20 squad.
The Rising Star category also featured a number of players from higher divisions, including Adam Wharton (Blackburn Rovers) George Thomason (Bolton Wanderers), Jordan Beyer (Burnley), Rico Lewis (Manchester City), and Curtis Jones (Liverpool).
‘’It means a lot,’’ said Mayor, speaking at the event.
‘’I can’t really believe it. It shows that the hard work is paying off.
‘’I didn’t quite know what to do when my name went up, but now I’ve got it I’m made up.’’
The event, which was held at Emirates Old Trafford, celebrates success across football in the Northwest and was attended by some of the leading names in the football world.
