Morecambe remain in the National League relegation zone after surrendering a two goal lead against Sutton United at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium.
It was the Shrimps who started the strongest of the two teams with a barrage of corners in the first 15 minutes, none of which troubled the Sutton defence.
Sutton came into the half a little more as the first period continued, but the Morecambe back line was never significantly troubled, as Morecambe continued to look the better side.
The Shrimps got their noses in front in first half stoppage time. A lovely move saw Miguel Azeez sweep the ball out to Lewis Payne, and the right back’s teasing cross back to the midfielder was volleyed home into the bottom corner.
It only took the Shrimps five minutes to double their lead in the second half, this time through Jake Cain with a strike from outside the Sutton area which nestled perfectly into the corner, after more good work by Azeez and Ben Tollitt.
Morecambe were in seemingly total control of the game after that, until things unravelled in two second half minutes inside the last 20.
Firstly, Rolando Aarons brought down an advancing Junior Eccelston in the penalty area with the referee pointing to the spot. Lewis Simper sent Jamal Blackman the wrong way from 12 yards to pull one back for the visitors.
Just a minute later, Sutton United found the equaliser. A cross from the left was headed towards goal, and although Blackman made a superb low stop from an initial header, the ball was recycled back to the right, where a cross was met by an unmarked Ashley Nadesan to nod the ball into the back of the net and earn a share of the spoils for the U’s.
