Schoolboy picked for England shows table tennis talent runs in family

Thomas Ellis has been picked to play for England at table tennis

An 11-year-old boy from Morecambe is continuing his family legacy after being picked to play for England at table tennis.

Thomas Ellis has been selected to play in the Eurominis event - the European Championships for his age group - in August.

Thomas, who attends Great Wood primary school in Morecambe and will soon be starting at Lancaster Royal Grammar School, has also recently been chosen for an England Development Squad after a trial at the EIS (English Institute of Sport) in Sheffield.

His mum Rebecca said "we are beyond proud of his dedication to his sport that’s has brought about this opportunity".

Thomas has played since around the age of four.

He won his first Nationals medal this year, a silver medal in Under 11 boys.

Thomas also won a Swedish Open tournament at the age of nine, which was his first taste of competing abroad.

Table tennis talent runs in the Ellis family, as his older brother Toby is now a professional player and his sister Bethany is twice National Champion.
