Senegalese international Pape N'Diaye Souare has today joined Morecambe FC on a contract to the end of the 2022-23 season.
Left-back Souare, a former Premier League defender with Crystal Palace, joins after most recently being with Charlton Athletic and previously playing with French sides Troyes & Lille and Reims.
Pape will provide vital cover on the left side of the Shrimps defence following the injury sustained to Max Melbourne during our match at Cambridge United.
Having represented Senegal on 22 occasions, Pape has been part of many Olympic and African Cup of Nations squads since claiming his first cap in 2012.
On joining The Shrimps, Pape said: “I am excited to join Morecambe for the remainder of the campaign. We have a fight on our hands to remain in League One, and I want to help my teammates achieve that aim.”
“I have obviously spent a period of my career in England, and I hope that experience will help me and the team going forward in these next nine games.”
Manager Derek Adams said he was delighted to add experienced Souare to his ranks.
“To be able to bring a player of Pape’s experience in at this stage of the season is a real boost to the group,’’ said Adams.
‘’In losing Max we have tried to find a good replacement and we have managed to bring in a former Premier League player and Senegal international which we hope will benefit us during the run-in.”
