Young boxers show their skills at Morecambe club's last show of 2025

A Morecambe amateur boxing club held its final show of 2025 featuring some of the area's top up-and-comers.

The Coastal Amateur Boxing event on Wednesday night featured four 'skills' bouts where the judges do not score, and young boxers have the chance to hone their skills in a non-competitive environment.

Coastal's McKenzy Wardman, James Allison and Isaac Hermi all took part and were all impressive.

After the interval, there were four competitive bouts where the judges were scoring.

Ivan Winder from Coastal faced Danyal Hussain from KBW ABC, who used a series of one-twos to score points from distance in the first two rounds.

Winder (below, left) got closer in the final round and rocked Hussain into the ropes, but his opponent survived and scored a unanimous win.

Next, Emmanuel Agun from Lancaster Boxing Club defeated the brave Aidan Thompson from Coastal, the referee stopping the bout in the final round after the doctor was called to check blood coming from Thompson's nose. Agun had been in control of the contest.

Coastal's Charlie Turner started well in his bout with Joshua Braiden from Bury ABC but his opponent got the better of the final two rounds to score a unanimous points win.

Finally, Billy Thompson from Coastal was unfortunate to lose a decision to Asad Begi from Clayton ABC.

The heavy-handed Begi was aggressive, getting inside the tall Thompson's jab to land with hooks to head and body in an enthralling contest. Billy also had success when he kept the fight at range, picking Begi off with classy jabs and straight rights.

Thompson, though, was caught with a big shot right on the bell to end the first round and was given a standing count. This ultimately made the difference as Begi got the nod on a split verdict.

The show was held at Red Rose Community Centre on West End Road in Morecambe. Beyond Radio's Greg Lambert was Master of Ceremonies.
