Youthful Morecambe side slip to pre-season loss at Cheadle Town

Morecambe’s unbeaten pre-season run came to an end on Tuesday evening as a youthful Shrimps side were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Cheadle Town.

In the first half Morecambe had plenty of the ball but did not create anything of substance.

Cheadle to their credit played well in the first period. They made the game a scrappy affair, not allowing Morecambe any time on the ball or space to play as their back five kept a compact shape.

Into the second half and Cheadle started the better, with plenty of possession and putting Morecambe under pressure. Morecambe registered their first meaningful effort on goal in the 58th minute as Teddy Collis played in Conan Newall, but his shot was straight at the keeper.

Morecambe nearly gifted Cheadle the winner when Isaac Buckley-Ricketts’ back pass was intercepted, but the striker couldn’t find the back of the net.

Morecambe came close again in the 81st minute, as a good counter-attacking move found Trialist C but his shot went just wide of the post.

Cheadle took the lead in the 83rd minute, as a ball into the box was met with a shot that Myles Boney got a hand to, but it looped up and Kylan Depeiaza tapped into the empty net.

Morecambe nearly got the equaliser in the 89th minute when Trialist A put a great ball into the box that found Max Oldfield, but his shot cannoned off the foot of the post.
