A son's quest to come to terms with an absent father who sent him an empty wooden box every year has inspired a theatre show in Lancaster.
'The Long Way Home' is the brainchild of theatre maker, performer, director, and acting and movement coach Ben Philips, and comes to The Dukes' Moor Space venue this Friday night (October 28) at 7.30pm.
"My dad made wooden boxes and puzzles," said Ben.
"Every year he would send my sisters and I one of those boxes for our birthdays.
"On the anniversary of his death, I decided to create an absurd love letter to the strange times we did spend together, and my comic obsession about the times we didn’t."
Ben says the show is "part autobiography, part exaggeration for comic and dramatic effect" and "my fantastical and absurd quest to come to terms with my absent father’s inheritance".
