Audiences have the opportunity to catch an accordion-cello duo in Morecambe this month.
Hannah James and Toby Kuhn include Morecambe’s More Music in their UK tour.
Hannah is an award-winning accordionist, dancer, songwriter and singer, renowned for her work with The Jigdoll Ensemble, Lady Maisery, Seasick Steve, Maddy Prior, Eliza Carthy, Karine Polwart, amongst others. Toby is a globetrotting French cellist whose post-classical, inventive playing combines beautifully with Hannah to create charismatic, playful chemistry.
The tour launches the duo’s new album, a journey through sound, texture, emotion and rhythm which is about navigating the paths of growth, discovery, darkness and light. The music explores the dialogue of cello, voice, accordion and foot percussion in new and unexpected ways.
Ben McCabe, Creative Producer, More Music, said: “This is the next step for us with Hannah James who has performed a few times at More Music with Lady Maisery, and who is also very busy in the clogging world.
‘’Her duo with cellist Toby Kuhn is super sensitive, interactive and alive. Toby is very dancerly and mercurial in his playing and Hannah often actually dances as part of their varied songs, tunes and stories set.”
Hannah James and Toby Kuhn will be supported by La’l Tethera, an innovative and globally inspired Cumbrian folk band.
