New season of dates announced for Morecambe light music orchestra

The Promenade Concert Orchestra led by Howard Rogerson

A light music orchestra based in Morecambe has announced its 19th season of concerts in the town.

The Promenade Concert Orchestra, made up of professional, semi-professional and amateur musicians from the local area, will perform four varied programmes across its 2025/26 season at the Platform.

The dates are Family Favourites on Sunday November 23, the New Year Viennese Concert on Sunday January 25, Music from the Palm Court on Sunday March 22 and Music from the Films on Sunday May 17.

Family Favourites is inspired by the BBC Home Service programme of the same name and will include a programme of audience requests.

At the New Year Viennese Concert expect waltzes, polkas and plenty of Strauss, dancers from Turning Point Theatre Arts, and guest international soprano soloist, Sarah Fox.

Music from the Palm Court harks back to the holidays of yesteryear with the music heard across seaside resorts and spa concert halls in the early 1900s and later.

Music from the Films features iconic themes from blockbuster movies and musical gems from the golden age of Hollywood.

Tickets for all four concerts will be available via The Platform box office.

The orchestra has also received a £3000 grant from Morecambe Town Council.

"The trustees of the Promenade Concert Orchestra are most grateful to receive, once more, the support of Morecambe Town Council; not only financial, but also the recognition of the concerts provision we offer to not only Morecambe residents but visitors alike," said Howard Rogerson, founder and conductor of the orchestra.

Councillor Lee Bradbury, chairperson of Morecambe Town Council’s Festivals and Events Committee, said: "The Promenade Concert Orchestra are Morecambe’s only resident orchestra and provide unique entertainment which isn’t otherwise available here.

"Now entering its 19th year, the PCO remains the only orchestra in the country dedicated specifically to preserving live performance of Palm Court music; music which played a significant part in Morecambe’s resort and holiday culture in the first part of the 20th century.

"So not only do they perform easy-listening and accessible music, but each Palm Court concert offers a little piece of living social history.

"The town council is therefore pleased to be supporting the PCO for another season and looks forward to four more great performances."
