The team at a friendly and welcoming community hub in the West End of Morecambe is proud of two projects to support people with staying healthy and giving up smoking.
Stanleys Community Centre on Stanley Road is running Stay Well @ Stanleys - a pilot project looking to help reduce hospital admissions by supporting people in the community, rather than having to visit A&E.
The project focusses on the areas of respiratory, cancer, maternity, hypertension and mental health.
LISTEN to Robyn Thomas, Mark Rumer and Charmaine Rothwell from Stanley's Community Centre talking about the projects
With Stay Well @ Stanleys, the centre offers:
- Three free health coaching sessions to help you set goals, stay motivated, and build healthy habits
- Weekly drop-in sessions with a friendly chat and a warm welcome
- Help to connect with local services, activities, and community groups
- Digital support, help using your NHS App or accessing GP services
- Early help and advice so you can stay well and avoid reaching crisis or needing emergency care and much more.
- Relaxed, person-centred support for all ages; children, families and adults

Charmaine Rothwell, project lead, said: “Stay Well @ Stanleys is a friendly, local project helping people stay well, stay connected and get early support before things reach crisis point.
"Anyone can access it - children, families, adults. You don’t need a referral, you can just pop in or contact us.
“We help people with physical or emotional health concerns, digital health support like using the NHS App, building confidence, reducing isolation, and linking in with services such as Citizens Advice, social prescribers and Bay Volunteers.
“Small problems can quickly become big ones. A quick conversation now can prevent a fall, a crisis, or someone ending up in A&E unnecessarily.
"We’ve supported people who were isolated, struggling with health issues or confidence. With a bit of one-to-one support, they’re now attending groups, managing appointments and feeling hopeful again.
“Stanleys is trusted, friendly, community-based, people feel safe here. They come for food club, groups, activities, and from there we can offer support in a relaxed, non-clinical setting.
“If you’re struggling with your health, confidence, or just need a friendly chat, please pop into Stanleys. We’re here to help."
Stronger Together; Smoke Free Forever is another pilot project which has also been running since September 2025.
This helps people to quit smoking, whilst being supported by both Smoke Free Lancashire and Stanleys. So far Stanleys has a 100 per cent success rate with its clients.
Stanleys currently runs a clinic on Thursday afternoons between 1.30pm and 5pm.
They also run a Sing for Fun choir at the same time as the smoking cessation project is running, so you could even expand your lungs with a sing song whilst waiting for your appointment!
Stanleys Community Centre has more than 1,500 community members and provides activities such as armchair fitness, chair based yoga, circuit training, Tai Chi, sound baths, meditation, cooking classes, food club and much more.
Stanleys is open from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday and also runs evening sessions for young people.
