A Lancaster engineering firm has thanked its team for helping to raise £5000 to support families affected by cancer.
Like Technologies has donated the money to CancerCare, a local charity that supports adults and children affected by cancer, life-shortening illnesses and bereavement.
Like Technologies, based at Halton, provides specialist engineering support to clients including EDF, Sellafield Ltd, Thales and Cavendish Nuclear, specialising in electronic engineering and computer-based systems.
The firm selected CancerCare as its chosen charity following a company-wide vote.
Since then, the company’s fundraising included a charity quiz night at the Mazuma Stadium, which raised £1,810 in a single night in October 2025, welcoming teams from organisations including Lancaster University, Lancaster and Morecambe College, Teleplan Forsberg, First Digital Media, Lancaster and Morecambe Chamber of Commerce, as well as local pub quiz teams and CancerCare supporters.
Further funds were generated through a variety of team activities, from bake sales to festive days, with operations manager Andy Davy adding a significant boost, raising £1,878 by running the London Marathon in April 2025.
With more than £4,475 raised by team activities, the business itself made an additional donation to bring the total amount of money raised to £5,000, which was presented to CancerCare’s Head of Fundraising and Marketing Claire Mason in May.
“We are incredibly proud of the team and everyone who supported our fundraising for CancerCare," said Kate Houlden, managing director of Like Technologies.
“The charity does wonderful work for people across North Lancashire and South Cumbria, offering free professional support to adults, children and families affected by cancer, life-shortening illness and bereavement.
“That support can include counselling, complementary therapy, group activities and specialist help for young people, giving people somewhere to turn when they are facing some of the most difficult moments in their lives.
“CancerCare is a local, independent charity, so fundraising makes a real difference to the services it can continue to provide. We were pleased to play a small part in supporting that work and would like to thank our colleagues, customers, suppliers and the wider community for helping us reach the £5,000 total.”
Claire Mason, CancerCare’s Head of Fundraising and Marketing, said: “We cannot thank the team at Like Technologies enough for their support.
"They’ve had a phenomenal year of fundraising, truly putting their all into challenges, activities and events. We’ve loved partnering with Like Technologies and have enjoyed working alongside such a respected local business and the individuals who work there.
"The funds raised will have a significant impact in helping CancerCare continue our mission of being there for local adults and children affected by cancer and bereavement.
“Alongside the incredible total raised, this support has also increased vital awareness of who we are and the services we offer. While we hope no one needs our services, we want to ensure we are there for anyone who does, and Like Technologies’ support has gone a long way in helping us achieve this.”
