A Will writing firm based in Morecambe Bay has won a North West Family Business award.

Morecambe Bay Wills and Estates Limited was named Purpose Driven Small Business of the Year.

The awards ceremony, held at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool and hosted by renowned broadcaster Nigel Barden alongside organisers Sue Howorth and Dave Clarkson of The Family Business Community, brought together outstanding businesses from across the North West to recognise their achievements.

Judges praised Morecambe Bay Wills for being "built on strong values" and demonstrating "that companies can thrive while contributing positively to their communities."

The company was founded in 2019 by Nicola Combe and has won several awards since then.

The business is very much a family affair, with Nicola’s sister Paula and niece Georgia both playing active roles in the team.

“We’re absolutely delighted to receive this award," said Nicola.

"I founded Morecambe Bay Wills after losing my husband Jim in 2018 and deciding to build a new path. Since then, our team has grown and our passion comes from our own experiences.

"We strive to raise awareness, provide affordable peace of mind, and give back. We certainly have a purpose, and we’re definitely driven by it.

"This is very much a team effort, and I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who supports what we do – especially our wonderful clients, who took the time to vote for us.”

Morecambe Bay Wills & Estates was also a finalist in the People's Choice Award.

Other local finalists included Morecambe Bay Chowder Co, in the Food and Drink Producers category.

Morecambe Bay Chowder Co produce and sell chowder to customers at local events and festivals, and also at The Bath pub in the town.

Pete Stephenson from Morecambe Bay Chowder Co (below), posting on the company's Facebook page, said: "Incredible night in Liverpool at the North West Family Business Awards. Thank you to the kind person who nominated us and all your support and reviews that led to us being a finalist.

"Huge congratulations to Penningtons Tea and Coffee Ltd who won the Food & Drink Producer Award. Also a special mention to local winners Morecambe Bay Wills and Estates. And lovely to meet Ben and Annabel from our favourite English Lakes Hotels and Venues."

English Lakes Hotels, who run the Lancaster House Hotel in Lancaster, were also finalists in two categories - Leisure and Tourism, and Green Award - Large Business.
