Family announce closure of Morecambe hobby shop after 30 years

A mother and daughter who run a popular arts and crafts shop in Morecambe have announced it will soon be closing down after 30 years.

Barbara Boyd and Vicky Boyd-Power from The Little Shop of Hobbies at 11/13 Pedder Street have begun a retirement sale, saying the shop will shut later this year on a date to be confirmed.

The shop is known as an Aladdin's Cave of arts, crafts, haberdashery and hobbies - selling everything from wool to hand made birthday cards to Airfix kits.

"30 years ago today we opened our little shop on Queen Street opposite the jobcentre, we quickly outgrew it and moved to Pedder Street which has been our home for the last 28 years," said a post on The Little Shop of Hobbies Facebook page.

"We have met many wonderful people from all over the world and made many friends, lots of laughter and a few hugs and tears.

"We have loved seeing all the wonderful finished projects from lifesize Daleks to school projects.

"We have supported local charities, schools and groups with a 1500 metre Morecambe Football Club Scarf, five Moonlight Walks and numerous Cross Bay Walks.

"Our journey with Little Shop of Hobbies has been absolutely amazing.

"It's time to embrace a new chapter for us. So before we close our door for the final time our Retirement Sale is now on while stocks last.

"Thank you for all your support over the years. We have so many wonderful memories.

"Vicky and Barbara."

Posting on The Little Shop of Hobbies Facebook page, Morecambe gift shop Same As It Never Was said: "Enjoy your retirement, very well deserved. You’ll be missed very much by a lot of people. Where will I send people now?"
