Worldwide healthcare company opens medical facemasks facility in Morecambe

A global healthcare business has opened a new centre in Morecambe producing medical facemasks.

The new facility has been opened by Hengst Filtration on the Vickers Industrial Estate in Mellishaw Lane.

Around 75 staff will develop and produce innovative filtration solutions for medical technology and professional grade facemasks.

At the beginning of 2025, Hengst acquired the British company International Filtration Solutions from Preston.

The subsidiary has now moved to Morecambe, and will now also operate under the Hengst name and be present on the market.

Hengst CEO Christopher Heine said: "The opening of the plant in Morecambe once again underlines our transformation from an automotive supplier to a cross-industry filtration specialist.

Brett Smyth, managing director of the British company, added: ‘’In Morecambe, we are combining our team's many years of experience in the field of medical technology with Hengst's global expertise.

"Our plant in Morecambe is a promising location for the Hengst Group, which is sure to grow rapidly.”

The heart of the building, which houses production, storage, and offices, is its 5,400 square feet ISO Class 8 clean room area on two floors.

Here, Hengst manufactures filtration solutions for medical products to the highest standards.

Another special feature is a dedicated assembly line for adsorbents, which will further expand Hengst's capabilities in the removal of surgical smoke gases and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
