WATCH and LISTEN: Lancaster band's new music video for song written by Morecambe schoolchildren

A new music video has been released for a song about Morecambe written by local school pupils.

'Sunset Over Morecambe Bay' was recorded by Lancaster band Hiroshima Twinkie and features lyrics by children from Sandylands Primary School.

The song has been on the Beyond Radio playlist this year and has been extremely popular with listeners.

It came about after Chris Barlow, front man of Hiroshima Twinkie and also a University of Cumbria lecturer, organised a songwriting workshop with Year 6 pupils at the school.

Here is Chris on a visit to the Beyond Radio studio with Lola, his daughter Daisy's dog!

"The idea was inspired by Sandylands School, who were putting on a Glastonbury Day, and after I got talking to the head teacher Alison (Hickson)," said Chris.

"I took three local songwriters in, and the kids were wonderful. They really felt proud of (Morecambe Bay) and had lots to say about it.

"They came up with all these wonderful lyrics. We came up with the songs and we played them to the children, and their jaws were dropping (saying) 'that's a lyric I've just written'.

"'Sunset Over Morecambe Bay' just seemed to resonate and was very catchy. Alison and I talked about properly recording this. Hiroshima Twinkie were up for doing that. 

"Now we've just released the video. We're incredibly proud of it."
