A £35,000 appeal has been launched to transform the outdoor space on the Children's Ward at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Bay Hospitals Charity has launched its new Sunshine Smiles Appeal, calling on the community to help fund the replacement of the ward's current outdoor surface.
This will create a safe, accessible and stimulating environment where children can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of play, fresh air and time outdoors during their hospital stay.
The project is scheduled for delivery in spring/summer 2027, and the charity said it will create a lasting legacy for thousands of children and families who access care at the hospital each year.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to play, smile and simply be a child, regardless of why they are in hospital," said Judith Read, charity manager for Bay Hospitals Charity.
“Through our Sunshine Smiles Appeal, we are aiming to raise £35,000 to transform the Children's Ward outdoor space into a vibrant, welcoming environment that supports recovery, wellbeing and happiness.
"This project is about is about reducing anxiety, creating positive experiences and helping children and families make precious memories during challenging times.
“We hope our local communities, businesses and supporters will get behind the appeal and help us create something truly special for children receiving care at the RLI."
Bay Hospitals Charity is inviting individuals, schools, community groups and local businesses to support the appeal through donations, fundraising events, corporate sponsorship, community fundraising initiatives and charity partnerships.
They said that every pound raised will help bring the project closer to reality and create brighter days for children.
