Age UK are holding an event in Lancaster next week to highlight and promote scam awareness.
The organisation say they are really concerned about the quantity and variety of scams doing the rounds and the financial and emotional damage these can cause victims.
Consequently, they have arranged a one day information day at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre on Tuesday, November 15, between 10am and 2pm.
Age UK Lancashire’s Scams Awareness Team will be joined by members of Lancashire Police Cyber Crime Unit, Victim Support, Citizens Advice, Electricity North West and Lancashire Trading Standards and Safe Trader Schemes.
This free event will provide an opportunity for local residents of any age to discuss their concerns, learn more about online security, access advice and information to help avoid scams and the confidential support available for those who have been scammed.
In addition, visitors will be able to access information on the cost of living crisis and the financial support available.
They also want to raise awareness of a scam doing the rounds, involving the texting of individuals offering to apply for their cost of living payments for them, or the additional Cost of Living support payments, for those on qualifying benefits.
