The chaplain at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is inviting everyone to a special remembrance service in Lancaster.
These services, which are held twice a year, give families and friends the opportunity to pause and remember a loved one who has died.
For many this is someone who has died in hospital in the last six months, but all are welcome to attend the services, whether a death was in the community or in hospital, in the last few months or many years ago.
Ian Dewar, Lead Chaplain, UHMBT, said: “Remembrance Services tell us that grief does not stop at the funeral. We do not simply ‘move on’. We can feel sad whilst buying biscuits in the supermarket or hearing music on the radio. In chaplaincy, we know this, and so we offer people a chance to take some space, to reflect and remember together.”
The services contain Christian readings and prayers, but all people are welcome to attend and join in any way they would like.
One of the most striking parts of the service is the candle lighting. Those attending are invited to light a candle in memory of a loved one. As the candles are lit, they form a collection of memories, showing that even though grief can feel isolating, we are not alone and stand together.
This year, services will take place at St Thomas’ Church Lancaster on Sunday, October 18 at 2pm.
All are welcome to attend.
