A player registration embargo placed on Morecambe Football Club has been lifted, the National League has confirmed.
The embargo was put in place last month, for what was described as ‘non-compliance with league financial regulations.’
It meant that the Shrimps were prevented from signing a new player or changing the terms of an existing loan deal, but now manager Adam Lakeland can add to his squad after it was removed.
The embargo was put in place on August 11 after Morecambe Football Club Ltd was reported to the Pensions Regulator over non-payment of employee contributions.
Steve Dewsnip, Chief Operating Officer of the Shrimps, confirmed in a recent interview that the embargo had been placed by the league due to the matter.
On Wednesday (September 2), a notice appeared on the National League website saying the sanction had finished.
He said it was caused by "a missed contribution schedule that didn't get filed at the time, a purely administrative matter" following a change in club pension administration earlier this year.
Mr Dewsnip, in an interview with club channels, added that "a huge amount of work has taken place" to try to resolve the situation.
In a statement last week, the club added they were "pleased to inform its supporters, staff and other stakeholders that all outstanding matters relating to the club’s recently documented pension fund issues have now been resolved".
"This includes the recalculation, filing and payment in full of all overdue contribution schedules to the club’s pension fund with (pension provider) Nest," it said.
"Following the conclusion of this process, the club has been in discussions with Nest, The Pensions Regulator and the National League."
"The club would like to thank supporters for their continued patience and support throughout this challenging period.’’
Beyond Radio has contacted the club for an updated comment.
