Thousands of pounds have been raised as the community came together to tackle a 24-hour cycle ride in Lancaster.
The Ride for Hope was held at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre on August 22 and 23 as, through day and night, riders worked together aiming to complete 18,000 laps of the Salt Ayre cycle track, equal to an 18,000-mile cycle journey.
Money was raised for St John’s Hospice and PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide.
Cyclists of all ages joined in, taking to the track on bikes, tandems and even a unicycle - as others used exercise bikes to clock up the miles.
The Ride for Hope team thanked all their "amazing supporters and volunteers" and "so many local people (who) joined in either riding, supporting their children to ride, sponsoring a rider, donating and we had a mammoth incredible crew of first class volunteers who worked tirelessly throughout and kept the mood positive and celebratory despite a lack of sleep".
"With over 250 riders, we have completed a provisional 9650 mile trek across the world," said a post on the Ride for Hope Facebook page on Sunday.
"More miles will be logged from those who have raced overseas.
"Donations are still coming in with over £8,000 raised so far. Not quite our target, but that's okay, it is the journey that counts.
"We’ve also had incredible donations from local businesses to support our charities...(thank you) to local cycle clubs and their members who have really supported this event too."
The event was organised in partnership by the Salt Ayre Cog Set cycling club, Lancaster Cycling Club and Lancaster City Council.
"Cogset’s children and young people and all the riders should be proud of themselves for the miles and hours they put in and hoping all of the parents have gotten a little rest tonight. It’s been such a pleasure being part of this with you," said the Ride for Hope Facebook page.
The event was also supported by Lancaster Area Police.
"The local Community Beat Managers (CBM) and PCSO for Ryelands and Scale Hall as well as the CBM for Bulk and Marsh had a great time attending the 24 Hour Charity Bike Ride at Salt Ayre," said a post on their Facebook page.
"It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with members of our local community, hear more about the event and of course, put ourselves to the test on the static bikes. We were pleased to contribute some miles towards the charity's overall goal and support everyone taking part in this brilliant fundraising event.
"A huge well done to all the riders, organisers and volunteers for their hard work and dedication!"
