A symphony orchestra playing in a pub was a memorable way to officially launch the return of Lancaster Music Festival.
Lancaster's own The Haffner Orchestra delighted a packed crowd at the White Cross on the opening evening of the four-day city-wide music extravaganza.
The Haffner's performance was one of a number of highlights on Day 1 as the festival - back for the first time since 2024 - began in style.
Beyond Radio attended six of the opening night venues, starting with The Tap House where our own Matilda Walden was one of three artists performing on the Bands Against the Wall' stage.

The festival prides itself on its regular 'Busk Stops' where musicians appear in unlikely places.
Harpist Eoin Feely playing sumptuous strings as customers - including Beyond Radio's own Paul Fisher - enjoyed wood fired pizza at Aquila on Penny Street, certainly fit that bill.

Top local singer songwriter Molly Warburton was in great voice at the Borough, singing a mix of covers and her own material to the delight of a busy Thursday evening crowd.

At the White Cross, Beyond Radio's Greg Lambert caught up with Lucy Reynolds from the festival team for her thoughts on the weekend ahead.
Blackpool band Ska Face got everybody up and dancing in the covered outdoor area of The Pub with a lively set of ska classics.

And our evening rounded off with a visit to the regular Blood Moon rock night at The Bobbin where DJs played everything from classic rock to pop-punk.

Lancaster Music Festival continues today with a crammed Friday of music around the city, and runs until Sunday.
Once again Beyond Radio will be out and about this evening. Stay tuned to the Beyond Radio and Lancaster Music Festival social media pages for some of the highlights.
