Police issue warning over cold callers in Heysham area

Police have issued a warning about cold callers working in the Heysham area.

The issue of cold callers around the area has been highlighted as an issue of concern on a recent priority survey.

PCSO Chris Thompson said: ‘’I have had reports of cold calling in the Heysham area, particularly rural areas. This was of concern to some residents who are elderly and vulnerable. The cold callers where from BT/EE/Talktalk and were knocking on resident’s doors later in the afternoon into the early evening.

‘’Please don’t feel you need to open the door and speak to these people unless you wish to do so. Also ask anyone at your door that you do not know for ID.

‘’At this time of year, daylight hours become shorter and the weather isn’t the best, can I ask residents to keep windows and doors locked, particularly if you live alone.

‘’Make sure doorbell cameras are charged and any other CCTV devices you have are working properly, and please look out for your fellow neighbours,’ should you see anything suspicious or if something doesn’t look right.’’

Incidents can be reported via 101 or online if it is not urgent, and 999 in an emergency situation.
