Silverdale holiday park celebrates Cumbria Tourism award success

Staff from a well-known local holiday park are celebrating after winning big at a top tourism awards.

Holgates' flagship Silverdale site took home the award for Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year at the Cumbria Tourism Awards.

The prestigious awards are a countywide celebration which shine a spotlight on the outstanding achievements of the people and businesses in the area, celebrating quality, creativity and service.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to win this award, which means the world to us," said Michael Holgate, managing director.

“I’m so proud of our team - not just at Silverdale, but across the entire Holgates estate, who always go the extra mile to make sure our guests have an unforgettable stay.”

Holgates will now go on to represent Cumbria at the national VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.

The company was founded in 1956 by Billy and Miriam Holgate and is still owned and run by the family.

Silverdale is one of their nine parks across Lancashire and Cumbria, boasting 5-star leisure facilities and unique scenery.

Holgates employs more than 200 people and supports local suppliers.

The awards ceremony was held on July 8 at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal.

Other winners included The Wheatsheaf at Beetham who scooped the Pub of the Year Award.

The award was sponsored by Napthens and recognises pubs delivering a strong food, drink and hospitality offer for visitors and locals alike.
