Tributes have been paid to Morecambe FC record goalscorer, Keith Borrowdale, who has died.
Keith scored a Club record 289 goals in 451 appearances over 11 seasons with the Shrimps, winning four league titles and six cups in a golden era at Christie Park.
He also holds the record for scoring the most goals in a season, when he hit the target 52 times during the 1961/62 season.
Keith was signed from Chorley for the princely sum of £40 in 1958 when the Shrimps had been looking for a goal-scorer to replace the legendary Ray Charnley who had moved to Blackpool.
The Club came across Bowness-born Keith while playing for Chorley Reserves where he scored four goals in a 7-1 Chorley win on March 29, 1958 and the Shrimps acted quickly.
It proved to be a wise move as he went on to score 289 goals for the Club which included 18 hat-tricks.
His debut came in a 1-0 win at Droylsden on August 23, 1958 and although national service limited his appearances in the early years, he soon became a prominent member of the successful teams of the 1960s.
His last game came at the end of the 1967/68 season, though almost 10 years later he was back in a Morecambe shirt. By now he was the Club coach under the reign of manager Mick Hogarth and an injury crisis forced him to name himself as a substitute for four games.
He only came off the bench once however, and his final run out came at the age of 42 against Bangor City on May 5, 1979.
Keith made a total of 451 league and cup appearances in his 10 seasons with the Club.
The Borrowdale name returned to Christie Park in the 1990s when his son Peter joined the Club, before going on to enjoy a fruitful spell at Lancaster City.
