Lancaster City picked up a vital point at Cleethorpes in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
A Nic Evangelinos header was enough to rescue a draw for the Dollies in their inaugural fixture against an impressive, newly promoted Cleethorpes side.
Town’s top scorer, Josh Walker's brace just before the break, seemingly cancelled out the opener from Steven Yawson, and looked likely to help them take all three points, if not for the late equaliser.
Like the recent Warrington Town game, the Dolly Blues were able to get off to a dream start as Evangelinos slipped through Yawson, who slotted it home for his fifth goal of the campaign.
Before this, the home side were knocking on the door, and forced some huge saves from City number one Brad Kelly. This momentum even continued after the opener, as Craig Rouse’s side continued to pile on the pressure, but with to little avail
However, this did eventually lead to a reward as the aforementioned Walker found a quick double to take the lead. Firstly, he pounced on an unfortunate parry from Kelly, and five minutes later, another poacher-like effort sank the Dollies further.
Despite the advantage, the home side continued to create a plethora of chances in the next 45 minutes, as cut-backs to both Dan Gallimore and Max Brogan were blazed over the crossbar.
Once Jimmy Marshall’s side became acclimatised to their new shape, the momentum shifted as they began to pile pressure on the home side.
Following an ambitious looping effort from Matty Clarke on the right-hand side, a crucial corner was won, which consequently led to an excellent header from Evangelinos.
Although neither side could find a winner, it was a hard-fought point, which leaves City in third place, level with FC United in second.
With a 10-day break until the Dollies' next fixture, the attention turns to the County Cup, where Marshall’s side take on Ashton Athletic.
