Morecambe Football Club has announced the signing of goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on an initial deal until January.
A product of one of England’s most renowned youth systems, Blackman spent over a decade at Chelsea, gaining valuable experience through loan spells with Sheffield United, Wycombe Wanderers, Rotherham United, Middlesbrough, Bristol Rovers, and others.
The at 6’6” stopper has also played overseas with Ostersunds FK in Sweden and Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer, broadening his game and bringing a global perspective to the Shrimps’ dressing room.
In recent years, the 31-year-old has plied his trade in League One, spending a season as first choice keeper at Exeter City, before a spell at Burton Albion, and last season was a regular between the posts at Shrewsbury Town.
After leaving in the summer, he joins Morecambe as a free agent.
Manager Ashvir Singh Johal said: "I'm delighted that Jamal has decided to join the club, he's vastly experienced, he's played a lot of games in the EFL and beyond. His experience will add a lot on the pitch but also in the environment."
"The addition of another goalkeeper brings healthy competition for the starting goalkeeper position."
