Goals from Steven Yawson and Nathan Caine gave Lancaster City the win in a friendly at Kendal Town.
The Dolly Blues started quickly on a rainy Tuesday night in Cumbria as former Mintcake Yawson bagged against his former club inside the opening five minutes.
Lewis Mansell received the ball in the centre of the pitch, lost his man and then threaded the ball through perfectly to Yawson, who ran round Kendal’s keeper and slotted in.
The lead was doubled soon after by Caine who connected with a low, fizzing cross from the electric Trialist A following some sharp play down the left.
Trialist A was again causing issues on 17 minutes, shooting from close quarters but seeing his effort saved by Chris Cheetham.
It could have been three with 10 to go until the break, Lewis Mansell found himself in a good position but his low driving shot whistled past the post.
The Dolly Blue defence had been solid up until this point, but Matt Dudley latched onto a long ball with a dipped header past Brad Kelly to halve the deficit.
After the break, Jim Craig entered the fray and threatened with a point blank header but Cheetham saved well.
Moments later, Caine fired just over from 20 yards out before Trialist A forced Cheetham to dash out of his area and boot the ball away.
Caine later found himself in a great situation again. A long ball over the top was left by Craig and allowed the Dollies’ number 10 to make his way into the box and pick his spot, but he shot just wide.
With 15 to go, Craig sent in a low ball which just evaded substitute Marcus Cusani and, although Lewis Coulton was there to follow it up, his deflected effort only found the side netting.
A Cusani effort from a looped ball down the right stung the palms of Cheetham at his near post before a rebounded cross was cleared with six minutes left on the clock.
Up next for Lancaster City is the trip to North West Counties Premier Division side Longridge Town’s Inglewhite Road on Saturday, July 19 at 3pm.
