A retired police officer and successful author has been named the new President of Vale of Lune Rugby Union Club.
Barry Lees has taken up the post of club President for a two-year term, taking over from Dave Bagot, who stepped down at the recent AGM at the club.
Mr Lees, who is also the club press secretary, was first involved at Powder House Lane as a player in 1985.
He captained the B Team and helped to organise Vale end-of-season tours.
Barry later became event announcer, the club's press officer and has served on the board of directors since 2022.
He currently writes the Vale 1st XV match reports for the local press and Vale website, and will continue to carry out that role whilst fulfilling his duties as President.
"I am grateful, and honoured to represent the Vale of Lune as President," said Mr Lees.
"Over the past 40 years, I have learned from the very best. Now, I can't wait for the season to restart.'
Mr Lees worked for the police for 30 years and has released several crime fiction novels.
*The Vale's first team pre-season August fixtures are planned at home against Tarleton on August 16, and away in the Lancashire Cup at Aldwinians on August 30. The NW2 season begins on September 6 when the Vale play host to Firwood Waterloo. Kick off at 3pm.
