Lancaster City hope to face Liversedge at third time of asking

Lancaster City will finally make a long-awaited trip to Liversedge on Tuesday.

The Dollies should have faced the West Yorkshire side in January, but the game was postponed due to a frozen pitch, just as it was when it was rearranged to be played in March.

Lancaster have won five of their last seven games but were beaten 2-1 Warrington Rylands at the weekend.

Speaking after the match on Saturday, Mark Fell challenged his side to “try to win as many” of the five games as possible.

They have improved significantly over the last couple of months and were at the top of the NPL Premier Division form table last week.

Overall, the Dollies are 11th in the league on 51 points and are decently placed to better their 2021-22 season, in which they finished 11th on 56 points.

Meanwhile, their opponents on Tuesday sit second bottom in the table, in the relegation zone and six points off safety.

Recent results, such as a 4-0 victory over Atherton Collieries on March 28, show ‘Sedge’ are putting up a fight to stay in the division.

It is the team’s first season in the seventh tier of English football following their automatic promotion as champions of the Northern Premier League East Division last year.

The club have had an incredibly successful last few years, with promotion in the 2020-21 campaign as well from the Northern Counties East Football League Premier Division.

The two sides played out a 0-0 draw at the Giant Axe in October and both sides will be hoping for a more entertaining affair and a more positive result this time around.

Liversedge v Lancaster City kicks off on Tuesday (April 4) at 7.45pm at the Staffstore UK Clayborn Stadium.
