Morecambe announce assistant manager John McMahon has left club  

Assistant manager John McMahon has left Morecambe Football Club with immediate effect.

Yesterday, McMahon was charged by the Football Association  with misconduct in relation to alleged multiple breaches of betting regulations.

McMahon was appointed as number two to Derek Adams in November 2019, helping the Shrimps achieve promotion in the 2020/21 Sky Bet League Two campaign, culminating in the play-off final victory at Wembley in May

He remained in the position until leaving back in December 2021, when Stephen Robinson was in charge.

When Adams was reappointed as manager in February 2022, the 59-year-old, who also had a spell as a player with the Shrimps in the early 1990s, re-joined once more.

Co-Chairman Rod Taylor said: “John has played a great part in our Club’s history, both as a player and in his various coaching roles, over a prolonged period.

“We will never forget the highs of that day at Wembley and the experiences of competing in League One, which John has been an integral part of.

“He has also played his part in bringing through young players to the first team environment, such as Carlos Mendes Gomes and Adam Mayor, and has been a consistent  support to the manager and staff alike.

“We wish John the very best, he’s a top individual and we thank him for all he has done at the Club.”

A further statement from Morecambe said: ‘’’Everybody at Morecambe FC would like to place on record our thanks to John for all his efforts during his time with the Shrimps.’’
