A Morecambe boxer has thrown down the gauntlet to Tyson Fury's promoter after fighting to a crowd-pleasing draw.

Owen 'The Captain' Kirk fought toe-to-toe with old rival Jake Bray on Saturday night at Doncaster Racecourse.

World heavyweight champion Fury, also from Morecambe, was in attendance at the VIP Boxing Promotions event.

After the draw was announced, Kirk mentioned Fury's promoter Frank Warren, as well as his rival top UK promoter Eddie Hearn, as he was interviewed alongside Bray, who beat him in their first fight earlier this year.

"He won the first one, (a) draw the second, we'll have a third (fight), full respect there," said the Morecambe man.

"It was a good fight for people to watch.

"Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren? We deserve a slot on a big show!

"Doncaster was good tonight but give us this off-shot! We'll entertain a big crowd then!"

Light middleweight Kirk was determined to get revenge after the close and controversial defeat to Bray in April, the Morecambe man's only loss as a professional.

But the slick boxer raised eyebrows early on as he fought at close quarters with his opponent, enabling brawler Bray to tee off with combinations in the first round.

Gradually 'The Captain' was able to impose himself on the Yorkshireman and won rounds two to five on Beyond Radio's card as the fight developed into a give-and-take affair, with Kirk landing the more eye-catching uppercuts and body shots.

But Kirk had no complaints at the drawn result at the end of his first ever six-rounder, as the referee scored the bout 58-58.

"I fought his fight tonight," he told the VIP Boxing Promotions YouTube channel afterwards.

"It's new isn't it? I've come away, the away fighter, now I know what it's like.

"Doncaster, I'd love to come back here.

"It was a great fight and we'll do it again. Let's do Morecambe Winter Gardens!"

Kirk's professional record is now 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.

Later on the card, Tyson Fury and his fellow Morecambe fighter Isaac Lowe (pictured below) led the WBC Heavyweight Champion's brother Roman Fury to the ring for his professional debut.

The younger Fury won a four round points decision.
