The Shrimps made two changes from the first clash on Saturday, with midfielders Miguel Azeez and Elijah Dixon Bonner starting in place of Yann Songo’o and George Thomas.
It was the visitors who fashioned the first real chance in the 12th minute, with a break away move ending with a Pat Jones drive that was saved well to his right by Jamal Blackman.
The visitors were struggling to break the hosts down and it was the team from National League North who could have opened the scoring in the 28th minute, when Tom Peers skipped past a couple of challenges on the edge if the area, before curling an effort that crashed off the angle of post and bar.
Morecambe’s lacklustre showing continued after half time, as they offered very little in the final third.
Chester opened the scoring ten minutes from time, as the Shrimps failed to react to a quickly taken throw down the right hand side, and substitute Dylan Mottley-Henry found the net via a slight deflection from 12 yards.
Morecambe’s fate was sealed in stoppage time when midfielder Jack Bainbridge doubled the home sides' lead with a venomous strike into the top corner from 25 yards..
The Shrimps host Southend United in the National League at the Mazuma on Saturday.
