Morecambe fans travel in droves to Exeter for League One relegation decider

A large travelling contingent of Morecambe fans will be in Exeter hoping to see the Shrimps survive relegation on the final day of the League One football season.

Around 800-900 Morecambe fans are expected to make the trip to the South West to cheer on the Shrimps on Sunday.

Coaches of supporters set off from the Mazuma Stadium very early on Sunday morning to make the 287-mile journey for the 12 o'clock kick-off, with other fans arriving earlier to make a weekend of it.

Morecambe have given themselves a chance of survival for a third season in League One, after winning their last three games in dramatic fashion.

They beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 with a late Cole Stockton goal, beat Charlton Athletic 3-2 away with two goals from Stockton and one from Jensen Weir, then came from two goals down to win 3-2 against Lincoln City thanks to two more from Stockton and one from Oumar Niasse amidst incredible scenes at the Mazuma last Saturday.

With Morecambe starting the final games inside the relegation zone on goal difference, the Shrimps will not only need a positive result against the Grecians, who they drew 1-1 all with at the Mazuma Stadium back in December, but also for other results to go their way.

Two from Morecambe, MK Dons and Cambridge United will be relegated.

MK Dons play Burton Albion, while Cambridge host bottom side, and already relegated, Forest Green Rovers.

Victory for the Shrimps

A win for Morecambe would be enough to retain League One status, providing MK Dons either draw or lose to Burton Albion.

A draw

A draw for Morecambe would be enough, providing MK Dons lost AND Cambridge failed to beat Forest Green.

Defeat

If Morecambe are beaten by Exeter, then the Shrimps will be playing in League Two next season, regardless of results elsewhere.

Morecambe will also be relegated even if they win, if MK Dons also win, unless the Shrimps were to win by an improbable 12 goals more than MK Dons.
